Five Atlanta Shows to Catch This Month – August 2022

0

Summer isn’t over yet!

You’ve still got plenty of time to see some great shows in Atlanta, and we’re rounding up our top five for August.

We promise there’s something for everyone — whether you’re into vibing at a Rod Stewart show or want to check out a smaller set (there’s just as much energy, if not more, than a stadium tour).

Here are five of the best shows to see in Atlanta this month:

Improvement Movement

9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, 529, 529 Flat Shoals Ave. SE, 529atlanta.com

We first saw this quirky, wonderful Atlanta band in 2019 when they opened for Gary Wilson and Part Time. Even though it was a weeknight show, they turned up and put themselves on our radar.

Three years later, post(ish) pandemic, they’ve just released their debut album, Don’t Delay, Join Today! via Acrophase Records on July 29. We’re excited to see what they have in store for us!

Acid Dad

7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, Park Tavern, 500 10th St. NE, facebook.com

Acid Dad, the heavy hitters of psych rock and roll featuring hazy lo-fi tunes, will be performing at Park Tavern’s Sunset Sessions Sunday, Aug. 14. Hailing from the New York City area, this band recently played Shaky Knees, and we’re super pumped to see them at a more intimate set. It’s going to be a Sunday night you won’t want to miss—especially since the legendary Death Valley Girls and Athen, GA-born Shehehe are also on the lineup.

Echo and the Bunnymen

7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, Tabernacle, 152 Luckie St NW, tabernacleatl.com

“Lips Like Sugar” was way on our radar before “Euphoria” welcomed a younger crowd in, but nonetheless, these English legends have been rocking for 40 years. It’s going to be a magical night of nostalgic bliss.

Country Westerns

7: 30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, The EARL, 488 Flat Shoals Ave. NE. badearl.com

Country Westerns from Nashville is coming to The EARL for a Thursday night hoedown – you know, in a rambunctious, twangy rock sort of way. They build the foundations of their songs with dynamic tempo, creating a full sound bigger than you might expect for a three-piece.

Atlanta bands Thousandaire and Chick Wallace will be opening.

Rod Stewart & Cheap Trick

7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, Ameris Bank Amphitheatre, 2200 Encore Pkwy, Alpharetta, encoreparkamphitheatre.com

Rod Stewart plays in Atlanta this August!

You might have to go OTP for Sir Rod Stewart and Cheap Trick, but it will definitely be worth it. The rapsy-voiced Brit is among the best-selling music artists of all time.
