In support of their latest album, People Who Aren’t There Anymore, Future Islands brought their live show back to Atlanta at The Eastern with Ed Schrader’s Music Beat.
Ed Schrader’s Music Beat got the packed out crowd going from the start. Also local to Baltimore with Future Islands, the art punk duo know how to get the energy started. There’s something exhilarating watching these two go at it.
Future Islands, as you already know, are one of the best live bands around. For over 15 years now, Atlanta has been a consistent stop on their tours, building up their fanbase from the days of the 529 shows, and other small clubs in Atlanta to Shaky Knees, The Tabernacle and this time The Eastern. For frontman Samuel T. Herring, the size of the stage doesn’t matter, bringing it no matter where he is, an infectious part of Future Islands live shows that have been reeling in audiences for years.
With a new album released earlier this year, the setlist quickly and throughout showed how the new songs add perfectly to the bands discography and live show. “King of Sweden”, “The Tower”, “Say Goodbye”, “Give Me The Ghost Back”, “The Thief”, “Peach”, and “The Sickness” were all from the new album and part of the 22 song set fitting in nicely alongside beloved songs like “A Dream of You and Me”, “Shadows”, “Seasons” and more. There were even a few deeper cuts the band hadn’t played live in years.
All and all, what else is there to say, Future Islands continues to add to their greatness with each new album while their live show is consistently one of the best on the planet. Phenomenal performance once again.
