The MovieLife made their return to Atlanta this Monday at The Masquerade, hot off the heels of playing The Fest in Florida and two years after playing the inaugural Wrecking Ball Fest in Atlanta. They brought with them Fest mates Iron Chic.
Iron Chic were formed in 2008 in New York. Their sound is very reminiscent of The Bouncing Souls with the vocal abrasiveness of Hot Water Music. They are currently touring in support of their brand new LP You Can’t Stay Here released via Side One Dummy Records this past October. The crowd was sparse, par for the course for a Monday night I suppose, but fully invested in the music. Often singing along to some of their older songs including “Cutesy Monster Man” off their debut LP Not Like This.
Next up was The MovieLife. After laying dormant for many years, The MovieLife reformed and started playing live shows again. Some thought it would just be a simple reunion tour, but they were wrong. They charged ahead, releasing Cities In Search of a Heart on Rise Records this year, their first LP since 2003.
They played through a set of classics peppered with two or three new jams, all and of which the crowd was eager to hear. Their frontman, Vinnie, joked about the sparse turnout, remarking that next year they would be headlining Mercedes Benz Stadium. But joking aside, they did announce that they would be back in Atlanta for the spring with some big east coast acts that he wasn’t at liberty to divulge at that time. Let’s hope for that springtime gig, they can pick up a weekend slot in a larger room with a larger crowd. These pop punk veterans certainly deserve it.
