Finally it has arrived, the much hyped Tame Impala album Currents is here! This is a day that’s been much talked about, and much hyped ever since Kevin Parker started dropping singles on us even without an official release date. Now it’s here and whether or not your a fan of the new direction of Tame Impala, not quite as much psych ROCK, this is one album that we all will be checking out.
From our standpoint, the brilliance shines through on this record. Every band has to grow and try not to make the same record twice, but with that always come the detractors. This isn’t some complete departure sounding nothing like the band we have grown to love though, while their may be more synths and such, it’s still Kevin Parker doing what he does best.
But don’t stop there, one of the greatest songwriters on the planet, Jason Isbell, has released his latest album, Something More Than Free. Isbell just seems to get better with age and just seems to have a way about him that can draw the southern gentlemen out of a yankee that’s never even been south. Isbell is becoming a southern icon, but he is more than just the south’s, he’s everyone’s.
With just those two albums, we thought this week was already loaded then Wilco went and dropped a surprise new album, Star Wars, for free download on their website for limited time.
And don’t forget about Ben Bridwell (Band of Horses) and Iron & Wine combining forces for a cover album of which include covers of Talking Heads, John Cale, Spirtualized, Pete Seeger and more. This is one we’ve been really looking forward to.
Also our Athens buds, Family and Friends, have their new EP, XOXO, out today!
With that we bow down to you Friday 7/17 and now this whole international New Music Friday thing is in full effect.
