Touring behind their 11th studio album Painting With (February 2015, Domino Records), Animal Collective brought their elaborate stage set up to the sold out Buckhead Theatre crowd. The psychedelic electro indie rockers out of Baltimore County, MD, played a heavy set from the new album, developing new fans favorites in “Floridada” and “Golden Gal” while still owning their old material.
Every Animal Collective show is different, and for this show the bass was turned down, and the set was a emotionally drawn. But that sure didn’t keep the packed out crowd from dancing, as they reveled in every moment of Animal Collective. With the light show taking over, Animal Collective is one of those rare experimental bands that can get as weird as they want, while still captivating audiences all around.
On this night, Animal Collective provided a killer evening for Atlanta.
Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, from Orcas Island in the northwest region of Washington state, opened up the show by entrancing the audience early with her experimental electronic soundscapes. Kaitlyn brings a fine ambient texture to her music that can overtake your body. Combined with her ethereal vocals, Smith was the perfect compliment to open the show next to Animal Collective.
