Beach Slang brought for their Punk or Lust tour to Atlanta at The Masquerade this past Tuesday, alongside Richmond’s Positive No and Chicago’s Pet Symmetry.

Positive No

The night kicked off with Positive No, a noise pop band out of Richmond, Virginia. They formed in 2011 and feature members of Dahlia Seed. Their infectious melodies and abrasiveness brought a positive reception from the crowd. They are currently touring in support of Partners in the Wild out on Little Black Cloud Records. Unfortunately, their singer Tracy Wilson announced that this will be their last show for the foreseeable future due to their drummer needing shoulder surgery. They certainly went out with a bang, with Tracy coming off the stage to sing their last song amongst the crowd.

Pet Symmetry

Next up was Chicago’s Pet Symmetry. They are one of Evan Weiss’s many projects, which include Into It. Over It and Their/They’re/There.  They are currently touring in support of Vision out on Polyvinyl Records. Pet Symmetry has an Infectious pop punk sound and some funny stage banter. They originally came out in matching black shirts emblazoned with their band’s logo. About 4 songs in, Evan remarked that it was getting hot, which lead to each band member in unison removing their black shirts to reveal that they were all wearing the same shirt underneath in white. The crowd ate it up.

Beach Slang

Closing out the night were the mighty Beach Slang. The seemingly unlimited energy of their frontman, James Alex, seems to have no bounds. They played a solid hour of pure rock ‘n’ roll; playing most fan favorites and also playing a trio of covers: The Pixies “Where is my Mind”, The Replacements “Bastards of Young” and Jawbreaker “Boxcar”. Beach Slang played like they didn’t want to leave the stage, with James remarking that riding in the van sucks. They also made the announcement that this would be their last tour until next summer, due to the fact that they would be writing a new record – much to the delight of the crowd. If you haven’t had the chance to see Beach Slang live, I’d implore you to do so. You won’t soon forget or regret it.
