Austin psychedelic rockers The Black Angels brought their hypnotic riffs and visuals to Brooklyn Steel last Thursday night. The band is halfway through their North American “The Birds & The Bees Tour” with Atlanta garage band The Black Lips.
The Black Angels began the night with their ever-ominous “Young Men Dead.” Their setlist featured songs off of their fifth album, Death Song, intermixed with a handful of mesmerizing favorites from previous albums, including “Black Grease,” “Bad Vibrations,” and “Entrance Song.”
Inspired by the band’s reverberating set, The Black Angels’ touring light-pro The Mustachio Light Show captivated the crowd with a kaleidoscopic assortment of endlessly rippling visuals. Emerging with “Currency,” the band wrapped up the show with a mellowed out three-song encore.
