Today’s Song of the Day comes from the Perth, Australia band POND.Sitting Up On Our Crane is a beautiful psychedelic masterpiece off of POND’s latest album, Man It Feels Like Space Again, released in the US in January.
This album is already considered one of the year’s best albums by us, with so many songs that we can’t put down.
POND started as a collaborative music project in Western Australia, releasing 6 albums since 2009. Oh yeah, and they are like best friends with the great Kevin Parker of Tame Impala. In fact, Parker mixed Man It Feels Like Space Again. POND has also shared 3 members with Tame Impala. They are all brothers of the psychedelic sounds.
But POND is no Tame Impala, and that’s perfectly alright with us. Sure you can find plenty of hints of similarities. Working with Parker has got to rub off. But this group certainly stands out on their own. It’s all came together perfectly for this album.
Sitting Up On Our Crane is a song that takes you on a journey through space, feeling like the atmosphere is just floating right along with you, stars passing you by, and looking down on the world, everything is gravy (even though you feel like your gonna die). It’s a 6 minute song, and once it hits that 3:39 mark, you are grooving along in your own world, psychedelics or not, the music brings you there.
“All I wanna do is get drunk and listen to Dennis Wilson
‘Cause he’s the man, oh yeah-yeah-yeah, ’cause he’s the man, yeah-yeah”
