A small music discovery festival taking place in the heart (bars, churches, outdoor stages) of beautiful Savannah, Georgia, Savannah Stopover has announced the first 32 artists that will play the festival’s ninth year. The festival will take place on March 7-9th with up and coming international artists, plenty of buzz worthy indie acts from around the nation, and lots of Southeastern favorites, giving festival goers the SXSW music discovery experience, without all the hustle and bustle. Quite honestly, it’s the perfect little festival.
The 2019 lineup of Savannah Stopover features Atlanta indie legends Deerhunter headlining Friday night, an immediate attention grabber for the festival around the nation, even if they are from right up the road. With Deerhunter prepping the release of their eighth studio album, Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared, due out January 18th via 4AD, there will be a ton of excitement for the band’s set in the area. But there is plenty more than just the headliner to be excited about.
Lucy Dacus and SUSTO are both familiar names to Savannah Stopover, having previously played the fest. This time they return with even more buzz since their last Stopover sets and are sure to be two of the more highly anticipated sets of the weekend.
Kanine Records will have a showcase at the festival on Saturday, March 9. Kanine’s founder, Lio Cerezo was one of the earliest supporters of the festival, including 11 bands off the label’s roster that has played over the years. This year’s label showcase will welcome three new names from Kanine: Honey Lung from London, Living Hour from Winnipeg, CN and Tallies from Toronto, CN.
In addition Stopover has a few other names you may already know and expect great sets from, including The Joy Formidable, The Bright Light Social Hour, and Andrew Combs. There are also plenty of other artists to get to know if you don’t already. Well hyped here at OE, the list includes Charleston’s The Artisanals (featuring former SUSTO member Johnny Delaware on front) who are making waves behind their just released self titled debut album, and Atlanta’s own dreamy young band Lunar Vacation. The list goes on with a diverse group each offering something unique and worthy including The Beths, Hot Flash Heat Wave, Mike Krol, Priests, Paul Cherry, and Sneaks. There is plenty to like when looking at the upcoming Savannah Stopover festival in March, and this is only 32 out the expected 75-80 acts that will play the 2019 festival. More goodness to come.
So grab your cheap $89 3 Day pass (VIP – $159, 2 Day – $69, 1 Day – $39 TICKETS) and your favorite brew (yes, if you are the legal age you can carry your alcoholic beverage from stage to stage), while enjoying Savannah’s historic district alongside good tunes and good people for a weekend to remember. This festival is a yearly favorite and worthy of a trip, wherever you are coming from.
