Wowwowwow. November is a great month for indie rock shows in Atlanta. From dark humorous lyricists to synthy good times, here are seven shows on our radar this month:
Angel Olsen

Angel Olsen’s latest album All Mirrors has been giving us all the goth-folk drama feels and we are here for it. Her sultry voice and intimate lyrics paired with synths and strings take you down a journey as she transforms herself yet again. Olsen will be bringing her rising brand of folk to Variety Playhouse on November 4 with Vagabon.
Alex Cameron

Alex Cameron’s main squeeze Jemima Kirke isn’t the only cool thing he’s got going for him; he’s smooth, he’s experimental, and his third and latest album, Miami Memory, was released just two months ago. Think 80’s synthwave meets Springsteen storytelling. Bowie meets Byrne. Bouncy electro-funk meets dark humor. Catch our drift?
Stonefield

This badass Australian band came on our radar when they opened up for King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard this past September. The all-girl, all-sister Australian psych-rockers had the audience transfixed. Maybe it was their matchy suede suits, maybe it was how oddly similar they looked (they are for sure sisters) or maybe it was the way they slayed the stage. ANYHOW, Stonefield is back. And we’re super stoked for their Earl show and couldn’t be more excited to hear more synths, brain-rattling guitar, and thrashing drums.
Kikagaku Moyo

If you can pronounce this band’s name without looking it up, mad props to you. What we do know for certain is that their name translates to “geometric patterns,” which is pretty cool, for a Japanese psychedelic rock band. Kikagaku Moyo was formed by Tomo Katsurada and Go Kurosawa back in 2012/13, and their latest album Masana Temples was released in 2018. The last time they played in Atlanta was in 2017, so we are very excited about their return.
Rose Hotel
9 p.m. Nov. 15, Food Court (Mammal Gallery), 680 Murphy Ave. SW, #3064, Atlanta, www.freshtix.com.
The name Rose Hotel keeps popping up around town and it’s because quite frankly, they’re really really good. Local to Atlanta by way of Bowling Green, Kentucky and fronted by magical woman Jordan Reynolds, the band’s debut full-length album, I Will Only Come When It’s a Yes, was released in May of this year. Tracks like “10K” and “Would You Believe Me” are perfect for a solemn, winding drive watching the seasons change through the glass.
Sugar Candy Mountain

A perfect cocktail of 60’s West Coast psychedelia-chill and sophisticated pop composition, Sugar Candy Mountain sounds like they are playing against a backdrop of Candy Land. Their latest album In My Own World is smooth when it’s smooth and riffs when it riffs. They play The Drunken Unicorn on November 23 with Kibi James and Pinkest.
Over/Under Music Fest
