The evolution of the Shaky Knees and Shaky Beats Music Festivals continue as the festival returns to a familiar spot in Atlanta.
While the very first Shaky Knees Festival occurred in Old Fourth Ward at the old Masquerade Music Park, the festival has jumped around Atlanta as they continue to find the perfect home. The festival has occurred at Atlantic Station, Central Park, and for the last two years, at Centennial Olympic Park. Yesterday, they announced their return to Central Park, where the festival was in 2015 before moving to Centennial.
Over the last few years, Shaky Knees has occurred on Mother’s Day weekend, making for either a great family affair, or a tough choice of your Mom, or Atlanta’s best festival. This year, they’ve remedied that tough choice and moved it to the weekend before, with the festival set for May 4th-6th.
Shaky Knees’ sister festival, Shaky Beats, with their EDM focused electronic and dance acts has only occurred at Centennial, but this year they will join SK at Central Park the weekend after, set for May 11th-13th, yes Mother’s Day weekend. So if you want to your Mom to have a real special day, is their really anything better than ticket to the bass heavy affair? Surely they hit some raves back in their day?
Central Park will give the Shaky family some advantages they didn’t have at Centennial Park. Last year’s Shaky Knees Fest had 3 stages throughout the main park, but they have had more stages in the past, including 5 stages the last time they were at Central Park. Whether or not the festival expands back to more than the 3 stages, there is a lot less chance for the sound to bleed between the stages, giving attendees a better experience. Yeah, there is the possibility of more walking between stages, but there won’t be a scary bridge to cross just to get there (see Shaky Knees 2016).
All in all, welcome news for fans of the festivals. Now all that’s left is to find out the lineups (usually announced in January). Last year’s Shaky Knees included headliners LCD Soundsystem, The xx, and Phoenix. We can’t wait to hear what they come up with this year!
