The Kills, touring behind their fourth album, Ash & Ice (June 3rd via Domino) played to an enthusiastic Atlanta crowd at the Buckhead Theatre Tuesday night. The show was opened up by garage surf, beach goth, glitter-covered duo Kim and the Created.
The atmosphere changed entirely when Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart hit the stage – opening the show with their hit single “Heart of a Dog” off of their 2016 release. From there, The Kills kept the crushing tunes coming. The combination of Mosshart’s ever-writhing stage presence and gear-switching vocals and Hince’s overdriven licks and smirks galore, kept the audience on their feet for the two-hour set. /- Ryan Fleisher
The Kills were backed by a drummer and bassist with occasional electronic fills. Mosshart’s stage presence is undeniable – she never stops moving with blonde locks flipped in every possible direction. While Hince mainly stays put, he is a surprisingly clean player – especially given that he has had several hand-surgeries after a 2010 accident. He also manages to hit many vocal harmonies throughout their stage-show. The Kills are bringing an incredible live show around the US this year and should not be missed.
