A substantial amount of rain was coming down outside of the doors of Elsewhere in Brooklyn, NY, but the inside was filled with the soul of Tim Atlas, HOAX, and Habe.
Habe is the solo project of singer-songwriter, Max Haberman. Habe took the stage with a guitar in hand for their New York debut. Magically the Zone One Space at Elsewhere was transformed into an echo-chamber, with moody vocals veiled. Haberman found themselves in a groove that instilled nostalgic feelings of peace and relaxation. The set ranged from a cover of “Wind Cries Mary” by Jimi Hendrix and original mixes such as “Rollerblade” and “Self Discovery“. Make sure to keep an eye out for their upcoming debut project entitled What Did You Say.
Continuing the night, HOAX jumped on the stage. Their origins started in Queens, NY from friends Michael Raj and Frantz Cesar. They describe the sound like the “beautiful sound of sadness”. Soon Raj drifted into the flow as he was joined the rest of the band in songs such as “Grow”, “Beach House”, and “Pretty”. Raj’s raspy and edgy voice is at times reminiscent of Kings of Leon’s Caleb Followill. Bass player, Cesar’s energy matched Raj’s energized presence jumping around on stage with crisp fills from drummer Jacob Lopez. Their set ended with “Barely” and the crowd chanted that they wanted more. After taking a couple of moments the band left the stage.
Starting the end of the night around 10:30 PM was Los Angeles singer-songwriter, Tim Ferguson. Ferguson is better known by their moniker, Tim Atlas. After participating in NBC’s ninth season of “The Voice” and being mentored by the likes of Pharrell Williams and Gwen Stefani, Atlas is working to continue making a name for themselves. This is the second stop of their tour after performing in Chicago.
Bringing the Brooklyn audience to the front of the stage, Atlas opened with “Camp” and Tim’s voice meshed exquisitely with the rest of the band. Executing through other hits such as “Hold Up” and “Unwind” the Brooklyn audience was swaying. Twisting on the stage Atlas pointed the microphone for the crowd to sing. It all slowed down as Tim performed their space inspired song, “Dizzy” and ended with “Figure A”.
