With all of the great music around these days experimenting with new (see electronic) instruments, we forget that sometimes to make remarkable music, you don’t have to have more than a guitarist and a drummer. Today, we are happy to announce the debut self titled EP of the talented duo, Weisshund, due out June 2nd.
Weisshund is a rock and roll duo from Atlanta made up of Rick Lollar (vocals and guitar) and Marlon Patton (drums and Moog bass pedals). Patton and Lollar channel their respective influences of John Bonham and Jimi Hendrix, while focusing on riffs and melody and performing with the reckless abandon of a garage band.
Lollar and Patton are regulars on stage and in the studio within the Atlanta music community and joined forces in early 2014 to find an outlet. “We stayed up all night, made a mighty whiskey-fueled ruckus, and when the dust cleared the next day, we found a pile of new songs,” says Lollar. Weisshund released the single “Running” in late 2014.
“Back in January we went to New York to play a couple of shows. An old friend got in touch to let us know that some time had just opened up at Studio G in Williamsburg while we were in town. We went in expecting to work on one track but ended up knocking out the entire EP in a day. For our first release we just wanted to capture a raw live performance. ”
Mission accomplished.
Weisshund have shared a live take from one of the tracks off the new EP, “Save Your Love (For The Living)”. This song is a bluesy number that captures that raw sound Lollar and Patton were looking for. This track builds, showing the skill and precision that both musicians possess on both guitar and drums. At about 3 minutes in when Lollar goes into that bluesy riff, they have you. From there the duo rocks your stratosphere. Check out “Save Your Love (For The Living)”
Weisshund has performed at venues such as Pete’s Candy Store in Brooklyn, Rockwood Music Hall in Manhattan, Caledonia Lounge in Athens, Ga. And Terminal West in Atlanta and already has a few shows scheduled around the south:
