Gringo Star, set it off in East Atlanta Village on Saturday, September 8th, debuting songs from their newly released album, Back To The City. The Atlanta band continues innovating with their music by experimenting with new instruments and sounds. The gig covered new songs as well as many classic Gringo tunes from their already successful catalog and quickly got the crowd dancing and singing along at the EARL.

With over ten years of existence, five albums, and almost constant touring (including many intimate shows in their hometown), Gringo Star has been established as one of the best and most beloved bands in Atlanta. There was no doubt that a good crowd would show up at the EARL to hear the new songs live for the first time.

The stakes were high. Gringo’s last album The Sides And In Between was extremely highly acclaimed and ended up in many “best of” lists of 2016. The band ended up playing most of the songs from Back To The City, their highly-anticipated album released only a few weeks before the show.

Old Gringo fans may be used to the band members exchanging instruments throughout their set, but the addition of a violin and a second keyboard shows a clear new phase for the band.

The gig opened with “Easy” which also opens the new album and builds upon Gringo’s catchy melodies and guitar riffs with beautiful violin strings. The band continued with a killer set including plenty of new songs that quickly got the crowd dancing. The title track, “Back To The City”, was one of the highlights of the night as well as the mellower “La La La” and the intense garage rock track “Watchdog”. But a Gringo set would not be complete without “Rotten”, “Shadow”, and “Get Closer”, three songs destined to become indie-rock classics.

Gringo Star brought one of their best performances during this show, which was also recorded for a future release. More details to come on this, but it is clear that it will become a “must have” for fans in the near future.
