Today’s song of the day is from the husband and wife combo, Tennis.
Those who are not familiar with the duo – they offer an interesting background. After meeting in college, the couple embarked on an eight-month sailing journey along the Atlantic Ocean. Soon after returning from the ocean the couple began recording their debut EP, Baltimore. Much of the material was inspired by their Atlantic voyage. Simple vocals and keyboards are provided by Alaina Moore, and Patrick Riley provides bass and guitar. In 2011 the group gained traction after releasing Cape Dory via NPR‘s streaming service. Since then Tennis has toured all over the world, played on national television, and also landed a slot in the 2015 Shaky Knees lineup.
What’s in store for 2016? You guessed it, another voyage along the Atlantic Ocean (of which they blogged about via Urban Outfitters). “Ladies Don’t Play Guitar” is one of the first songs released after this adventure and it surely does not come close to disappointing. The song offers a simple and catchy melody driven by warm and soothing vocals from Moore, and a perfect bass line by Riley.
