PHOTOS: Minus the Bear & The Coathangers @ Center Stage Atlanta – 4/21/18

Minus the Bear returned to Atlanta this past Saturday, this time choosing Center Stage as their venue of choice to pack out for their 10th anniversary of breakout record, Planet of Ice. They brought along one of Atlanta’s finest in the surf-tinged garage rock of The Coathangers.

The Coathangers started off the evening’s festivities. They have been a staple of the Atlanta music scene since their formation in 2006. Their most recent full length, 2016’s Nosebleed Weekend was well received by fans and critics alike. They are currently touring in anticipation of their first ever live album entitled simply LIVE which was recorded at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach, CA and will be out on Suicide Squeeze on June 1st.

They are very reminiscent of bands like Bratmobile and Bikini Kill. The crowd was very receptive to the band, and even those who were there for the headliner eventually got the sound and started enjoying themselves.

Their most recent release is 2017’s Voids off Suicide Squeeze Records. But tonight was all about the anniversary of an album that put them on the map and has become an alt rock classic. They played Planet of Ice from front to back just to start the set. From there, Minus the Bear cherry picked songs from their entire discography to end out the night. One notably absent classic was “Pachuca Sunrise”. I did hear some fans fussing over it after the show had ended but they were content with the fact that they got to hear Planet of Ice in its entirety live, which to me seems well worth the price of admission.

They closed with 3 encore songs: Invisible, Absinthe, AND PACHUCA SUNRISE. So, I’m a little confused about your comment about fans fussing over its absence..? Anywho, it was amazing and I absolutely loved it!
