Melbourne, Australia’s Courtney Barnett came out with a bang with the song Avant Gardener and a few great EPs that came to form one of 2014’s best albums when they were all released in the US as the album The Double Ep: A Sea of Split Seas. Now she is back with her proper “debut” album Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit poised to take her spot among indie elites. Lyrically she is a league of her own with her own style, able to appropriately paint a vast picture of how she is feeling or the story she is telling that all types of people, young and older can relate to. Her lyrics are so to the point, so real, so honest, that you can’t help but feel her. Perhaps she is on the way to being the new song bird of our generation?
Not only is she a great lyricist and singer, but she is also a heck of a guitar player, shredding straight to the core bringing back memories of Sonic Youth and Nirvana on her first single for the new album Pedestrian at Best.
Barnett recently released her new single Depreston, a slower song about finding a new house with her partner, beautifully arranged. Courtney is growing up right before our eyes and ears in song, and we are all growing right along with her.
