Like so many around the country, music venues around Atlanta are closed to help stop the coronavirus pandemic for at least the next few weeks and possibly much longer. Not only will this pandemic be creating a financial burden for musicians and bands, but this also affects the staff at the venues in our own cities. Everyone from bartenders, bouncers, sound technicians and more are being hit hard.
So this means a lot of great people who count on their income from the very venues that make our local music world go, are out a lot of paychecks that they rely on to live. With the closure of the venues, bars, and restaurants in our hometown of Atlanta, many people have already created fundraising initiatives for the staffs at some of our favorite spots around town. We’ve gone ahead and started compiling a list of these fundraisers in Atlanta; if you have the means, consider donating so as soon as this all ends, we will have those same favorite spots ready for us to gather over some music and libations. The Vista Room in Oak Grove announced this morning (3/22) that they are closing doors. There is still a chance to save them if the Landlord freezes rent or government bailout comes. For now, they are closed. Atlanta Bars and Restaurants Fundraisers:
In addition to venues that regularly host live music performances, there are so many more people impacted, especially bars and restaurants around Atlanta. A lot of local musicians and artists rely on these jobs to help pay the rent and give them the flexibility to work on the arts. Now there aren’t hours to be had at these places, and the owners can’t afford to pay their workers during closed doors.
One good thing about being in the industry in Georgia is the Giving Kitchen, a non profit that provides emergency assistance to food service workers. Giving Kitchen has put together a great list of COVID-19 Resources to help. Consider donating to the Giving Kitchen here. They need your help more than ever now.
