Fresh off the plane from their 20+ date European tour, The War On Drugs landed in Atlanta for 2 nights at the famed Tabernacle Atlanta on Sunday and Monday night.

After releasing their brilliant fifth studio album, I Don’t Live Here Anymore, in October of 2021, The War On Drugs were originally scheduled to bring the new album to Atlanta in January, but due to COVID, a few dates had to be rescheduled and instead of one night, Atlanta got back to back shows from the band. With their World Tour continuing into the summer and fall, it seems the band is enjoying every moment.

Frontman Adam Granduciel seemed to be in a rather chipper mood himself during Monday night’s show. Throughout the 17 song, 2 hour set, Granduciel got in plenty of banter with the audience between songs, often joking on his rather mercurial reputation by telling the audience how much fun they are having, and he never has fun…. Granduciel even took requests, and when audience members yelled for “Under The Pressure”, he snapped back joking with them on their lame request, because of course they are going to play that song, you know towards the end or during the encore….which of course, the band delivered on. Instead the band went into the first single off the latest album, “LIving Proof”…. Neil Young cover “Like a Hurricane” to the audience’s delight.

Perhaps it was that the band stopped in on The Songs For Kids Foundation to meet some really special kids before the show. That’s just the type of thing that can impact the artists as much as the kids that the foundation benefits. And as Granduciel told the audience Monday night, these kids knew more about Rock ‘n’ Roll than anyone in the building. Not only did the band get to hang with the kids, those kids also treated the band to a cover of their song…..you guessed it “Under The Pressure”. Check out The Young War On Drugs performance below.

The War On Drugs were on top of their game on Monday night, their second night in Atlanta, and the audience was right there with them as the band played a mixed of old and new including hits like “Red Eyes”, “I Don’t Want To Wait”, “In Reverse”, and “Eyes To The Wind”, plus a Neil Young cover – “Like a Hurricane” – before closing with a Bob Dylan’s “Born in Time”. The War On Drugs and the Tabernacle are a match made in heaven that only accentuates the band’s signature sound as the guitars bounce off heaven’s walls to sing to the Atlanta’s audience, creating a wall of sound that’s hard to let go of. Don’t miss The War On Drugs on tour in 2022.
