The effortlessly cool Tiger! Tiger! brought their unique garage rock sound to The EARL last Friday, June 22, 2018. The band was out promoting their latest album Backing the Wrong Horse, which was released June 8, 2018. This is the fourth album from the group that has been a part of the Atlanta underground music scene for well over a decade.

Tiger! front women Susanne Gibboney and Buffi Aguero rocked kimonos with garters and looked as fierce as ever. These ladies can rock! With Gibboney on bass and Aguero on guitar, the rest of the band is all males(Shane Pringle, Sam Leyja, Mario Colangelo), rounding out Tiger! Tiger!’s sound and giving some extra flair to the band’s garage rock sound with keyboard and saxophone. The band could be described as garage rock, meets surf rock, meets some blues and it comes together effectively, providing a live show that steals the audience. Be sure to check out the new album Backing the Wrong Horse, you can pick it up at the band’s Bandcamp.

Before Tiger! Tiger! took the stage, two other Atlanta locals, Roadkill Debutante and Pine & Tolliver, warmed up the crowd, showing off how diverse and vibrant the Atlanta music scene is.

The lady-fronted band liken themselves to Conway & Loretta, Hank Williams, and the like and there is definitely an old country classic vibe to this four piece but with a little more rock and roll soul. The band’s front woman at times is reminiscent of Kim Deal, a little of The Breeders meets Houndmouth. Roadkill Debutante plays next at Smiths Olde Bar on July 10, 2018.

'Backing the Wrong Horse' Release Party @ The EARL - ATL - 6/22/18New to the Atlanta music scene is Pine & Tolliver, who was up on The EARL stage after Roadkill Debutante. This new funky, soul group could in my opinion easily become a favorite on the Atlanta scene. They are a fun and groovy as hell and should provide a vibrant new entrant into the Atlanta music with their soulful rock. Pine & Tolliver is a new band that is sure to make you a fan when you catch them live. Christina Pradhan
