SONG PREMIERE: Trash Panda “Stay Low”

0

Atlanta-based Trash Panda made waves behind their debut EP, Off, released in 2016. Their hit single “Giuseppe” especially left an impact – hitting number 2 on both Spotify’s US and Global Viral charts with over 1.2 million plays to date. It was a hell of a start for the soulful DIY band who blends everything from psychedelic rock, grunge, punk, and funk to form their indie rock sound. But Trash Panda are just getting started, and they don’t plan to slow down and lose the momentum anytime soon.

Back in July of 2017 the band released “Atlanta Girls”, which would be the first single off of their upcoming debut album, The Starclimber, due out February 9th. If you check out Trash Panda at a show or even just on social media, you will know this is a band all about having fun. With the groovy anthem in “Atlanta Girls”, the band celebrates the women of Atlanta with a catchy chorus and hella hooks, but at the same time the band takes a deeper approach to looking at the terrible aspects of city nightlife and how women are treated. In October the band released the second single “Heartbreak Pulsar”, an exhilarating soulful crooner that looks at the lack of depth of relationships in the social media age. So yeah, basically Trash Panda can hit you from all sides. And with the upcoming release of their debut full length album, the band seems destined for a big year.

This isn’t about that debut album though. Today we are pumped to premiere the special surprise one-off single, “Stay Low” from Trash Panda. “Stay Low” will not be on the upcoming new album The Starclimber, but heck, it may just be the best thing you hear today.

While Trash Panda has always been insistent on recording at their home studio, dubbed “the treehouse” just north of Atlanta, for “Stay Low” the band ended up getting together with Randy Michael at Toco Electric Studios. Michael, known for his authentic and vintage sounds he has created working with Mattiel, Ivory Williams, Curtis Harding, etc., and of course his own band Black Linen, brought something a little different to Trash Panda.

“This song is a departure for us. It’s our first release recorded outside our home. For this song’s vintage feel we went to Randy Michael’s studio, Toco Electric Studios, and he recorded us straight to half-inch tape. He captured us live in a room together. The simplicity and purity of the process made the final result vibier and probably more interesting than anything we’ve done before. By limiting ourselves to a finite number of tracks, we were forced to focus on the composition rather than musical decorations.” said the band.

Trash Panda and Randy Michael absolutely nailed “Stay Low”. The song is a journey, with big screeching guitars and a huge uplifting chorus that will have you wanting to dive right into their world. While Trash Panda always seem to want to explore the outer regions of space, “Stay Low” is the song that catapults them into the galaxy.
