On a damp, overcast, and thankfully-not-rainy Sunday evening, Central Park’s SummerStage featured an electronic double-bill: Guernsey-born multi-instrumentalist Mura Masa supported by Canadian producer Jessy Lanza.

As dusk began to settle, Jessy Lanza warmed up the crowd with her silky vocals layered over mellow beats.

After dark, Mura Masa lit up the stage, the crowd, and the Central Park trees with the opening trills and high notes of “Messy Love.” Someone in the front row exclaimed, “Oh, he sings too!” Mura Masa’s live show reveals the man behind the curtain of production. Such that, the audience cannot ignore the flexibility and range of Alex Crossan’s musical ability.

Pivoting between drums, synths, guitar, microphone and more drums, Mura Masa orchestrated each of the earworm-inducing songs dedicatedly. Two female vocalists took the stage intermittently to sing and hype the missing lyrics of each collaboration.

Mura Masa played everything from his new singles, “Complicated” feat. Nao and “Move Me” feat. Octavian, to songs off his self-titled album like “1 Night,” “Nuggets,” and “Second 2 None,” as well as his drawn-out remix of Foals’ “Night Swimmers.” He closed out the night with the ever-catchy “Love$ick” followed by a dance-filled “Firefly” encore.
