MGMT wrapped up four sold-out shows in New York this past week, including a two-night run at Brooklyn Steel and an inaugural concert at Manhattan’s newest venue Sony Hall. On the heels of their latest album Little Dark Age, the band will briefly tour North America before embarking on a summer-long circuit of European festivals.
“She Works Out Too Much,” “Me and Michael,” “When You’re Small,” and “TSLAMP” were visual and performative standouts. The Sunday night setlist drew heavily from the duo’s fourth release Little Dark Age – an album that successfully encapsulates modern life in 2018. It was refreshing and exciting to see the band perform new material, especially after a five-year gap since their last release.
No doubt, “Time to Pretend,” “Kids,” and “Electric Feel” sparked the most love from the crowd. Few songs are able to universally transport an audience back ten years quite like this triad from Oracular Spectacular. Overall, MGMT delivered a solid performance, interweaving fan favorites from all albums throughout the night.
