ON OUR RADAR: Atlanta Shows to Catch in April 2023

0

With spring in full swing, we’re thrilled to bring you an exciting lineup of live music events. Almost every night of the week, you’ll have a chance to catch a show, with some evenings offering multiple options. It’s going to be a tough call, but don’t let adulting get in the way of an unforgettable night – grab your tickets now and join us for an epic season of music.

🤫 FYI: SweetWater 420 Fest takes place this month on April 22-23, and the countdown to Shaky Knees has officially begun! We’re just a little over a month away from three unforgettable days and nights of music in Central Park.

Our top picks:

🎸 Small Reactions: We might be a bit biased, but we can’t help it – Small Reactions is one of our favorite hometown heroes to catch live. Their energetic post-punk sound infused with elements of indie rock and pop is an irresistible combination. With catchy guitar riffs, driving basslines, and propulsive drumming, their music is anchored by Scotty Hoffman’s distinctive vocals. Their latest album, New Age Soul, released in 2021, is a killer, complete with some amazing music videos. But what’s got us truly stoked is the fact that they’ll be playing new tracks from their upcoming album at this show. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us!

Other performances of the night include Das Kaiser, Advertisement and Jeremy Ray & the Howdy Men. With FOUR amazing bands to catch, your Tuesday night is about to be wrecked in the best way possible.

Date: 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 11; Location: The EARL – 488 Flat Shoals Ave SE

🖤 Molchat Doma: Molchat Doma is a band that’s been on our radar for a while now. We last caught them at Shaky Knees 2022, where they blew us away with their powerful sound that even the Criminal Records stage couldn’t contain. Hailing from Minsk, Belarus (yes, we Googled this too), this post-punk, new-wave, Joy-Division-esque trio has been taking the world by storm with their electrifying live performances. Their sophomore album, Etazhi (Floors)released in 2018 quickly gained a cult following, and their most recent album, Monument, released in 2020, further solidified their reputation as one of the most exciting post-punk acts on the scene today. If you haven’t seen them live yet, you’re in for a treat!

Nuovo Testamento will open for Molchat Doma, promising “Discoteca Italia.”

Date: 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 13; Location: Variety Playhouse – 1099 Euclid Ave NE

Ringo Deathstarr: Ringo Deathstarr, a shoegaze band hailing from Austin, Texas, takes its name from an unconventional mashup of Ringo Starr and “Star Wars” lore. Their music is like a dreamy, fuzzed-out journey through time and space, influenced by icons like The Cure and The Velvet Underground. Their albums Colour Trip and Pure Mood have garnered a global following, and their live shows are legendary. Joining them at their Atlanta stop are two other boundary-pushing acts: Pleasure Venom, an experimental punk group from Austin, and Mirror Move, an innovative shoegaze band from Atlanta. Get ready to be transported to another dimension with these sonic pioneers.

Date: 8 p.m. Sunday, April 30; Location: Purgatory at The Masquerade – 75 Martin Luther King Jr Dr SW
